Event Highlights: Swiss Immigration and Labor Law Seminar
On July 8, 2024, the Chinese Community in Switzerland hosted a seminar on Swiss immigration and labor law as part of the celebration of their tenth anniversary, marking a significant milestone for the community. This special seminar attracted over 40 participants, including distinguished guests and honorary members. The event was moderated by Dr. Jia Xufeng, who warmly welcomed both long-standing and new members, creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere for the evening.
The event began with an enthusiastic welcome speech by Hong Zhang, the founder and president of the Swiss Chinese Community. She reflected on the community’s growth and resilience over the past decade and shared her personal journey of growing alongside the community. Ms. Zhang emphasized the importance of knowledge sharing, mutual support, cultural celebration, and the indomitable Chinese spirit. She expressed gratitude to the esteemed guests, including renowned speakers Mr. Gian Gill and Ms. Jeannine Dehmelt from Vischer Law Firm, as well as the volunteers who made the event possible. Her speech was enthusiastically translated into German by the association’s old friend, Mr. Jochen Gnadinger, ensuring that all attendees could fully understand her message.
Following the welcome address, the seminar featured two in-depth presentations. Mr. Gian Gill provided a comprehensive overview of key legal issues and details within Swiss labor law, illustrating his points with relevant cases and calculation rules. His presentation offered valuable insights into the complexities of labor regulations and their impact on foreign employees in Switzerland.
Immigration law expert Ms. Jeannine Dehmelt discussed the challenges faced by foreign workers in Switzerland, particularly those from non-EU and non-EEA countries. She provided practical advice and highlighted important aspects of immigration law practice, helping attendees navigate the Swiss legal landscape more effectively.
The presentations were followed by a lively and intensive Q&A session, where participants actively engaged with the speakers. The atmosphere was highly dynamic, with attendees posing various insightful and practical questions and benefiting from the speakers’ professional responses. This interactive session allowed for a deeper exploration of the topics discussed and provided personalized guidance to the participants.
The event concluded with an Apéro, offering attendees the opportunity to further network and build connections. The Apéro was a highlight of the evening, featuring freshly made Chinese dumplings that added cultural flair to the gathering and enhanced community cohesion. The dumplings’ sponsor, TAITAI FOOD Germany GmbH, also briefly shared their entrepreneurial journey in Germany with the attendees. The event continued until 10:30 PM, with participants enjoying ongoing discussions and camaraderie among community members.
In summary, the seminar not only provided attendees with valuable legal insights and guidance but also strengthened the internal bonds within the Swiss Chinese Community. It laid the foundation for future collaborations and celebrations, reinforcing the community’s commitment to supporting each other and celebrating their shared cultural and connections between China and Switzerland.
